Polly’s Yorkshire Puddings

PollyNovember 19, 2024August 28, 2025

Every good English roast dinner needs Yorkshire Puddings and gravy. My aunts made Yorkshire Puddings like it was nothing. They just whipped them out, popped them in the oven, and every one turned out perfectly. Not so for me. To…

Chocolate Cookies with a Peanut Butter Surprise!

PollySeptember 14, 2024December 4, 2025

This cookie tastes much, much better than it looks. It also tastes much, much better than it’s list of ingredients. Take a bite; trust me!  There’s a layer of peanut butter inside!  As one of my friends said, one who shall…

Caprese Garlic Bread

PollySeptember 11, 2024August 28, 2025

It’s just garlic bread, folks, but it’s garlic bread with an upgrade! There are tomatoes, mozzarella and basil! After running across this recipe at Two Peas and their Pod,  I decided I needed to make it—now! I quickly sent texts to a few friends…

Cupcake Tin Turkey Pies

PollyAugust 20, 2024December 4, 2025

When asked what his favorite kind of pie is, my son always answered, “Meat!” and then gets those raised eyebrow, are-you-kidding-me looks from Americans not familiar with Great British cooking 🙂 Meat pies are one of the delicious cornerstones of…

Butternut Squash : Little Pieces of Heaven

PollyAugust 3, 2024August 28, 2025

No one ever makes this recipe when I suggest it to them, EVER.   The recipe is just so…odd.  Mere mortals can’t put the ingredients together in their head and have any idea about how GOOD butternut squash tastes when…

Banana Cream Pie

PollyJuly 23, 2024August 5, 2025

The first memory I have of my son helping me cook, was him slicing bananas for Banana Cream Pie. It quickly became one of his favorite foods, and 30 years later it still is 🙂 This pie has to be…

Traditional English Scones, Yorkshire Edition

PollyJuly 21, 2024August 5, 2025

This picture is a bit embarrassing. Classic British Scones are neater, straighter, and slightly smaller than the ones pictured here 🙂 When British people talk about scones, what they are picturing is a simple raisin scone. The one alternative to…

NOT a Boring Cheesecake

PollyJuly 21, 2024August 6, 2025

My younger daughter is the Queen of Cheesecake around here. She loves her cheesecakes, and has amassed quite a collection of hits: Bourbon Peach Streusel Cheesecake; Boozy Nutty Pumpkin Cheesecake; Cappuccino Fudge Cheesecake; and S’mores Cheesecake! She calls this cheesecake—my…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
