Breakfast Biscuits

PollyOctober 22, 2022July 16, 2025

These homemade breakfast biscuits are bigger, better, prettier and tastier than anything you’ll find at a fast food place or diner, and probably have a lot less fat. How can you resist?  Don’t be scared.  They go together pretty quickly,…

Cracked Sugar Pumpkin-Apple Muffins

PollySeptember 11, 2022December 2, 2025

Pumpkin isn’t only for October and November, you know.  I hope you have an extra can or two of pumpkin puree on hand for the other ten months of the year 🙂  This isn’t a pumpkin muffin, and it isn’t…

Grandma’s Buttermilk Cornbread

PollyAugust 19, 2019February 5, 2026

As a young kid, Jiffy brand cornbread was my favorite and because it was cheap—about fifteen cents a box—it fit into my family’s budget.  The mix only required one egg and a ¼ cup of milk or water to make…

Smoked Chicken Almond Sandwiches

PollyJune 15, 2019August 8, 2025

I enjoy inviting my friends over for an English Tea a few times a year. Some tea sandwiches rotate in and out, but two seem to always make it on the menu—this sandwich and my Chicken Curry Sandwiches. Tea sandwiches…

Tropical Mango Scones

PollyMay 10, 2019July 18, 2025

It takes a lot to get true mango flavor in baked goods.  This scone recipe manages it but it does require mango in three different forms: crushed freeze-dried mango, dried mango, and diced frozen mango. Then throw in a bit…

Chicken Curry Tea Sandwiches

PollyDecember 22, 2018July 18, 2025

Chicken Curry finger sandwiches have been a staple at my English Teas for decades. I don’t remember where I found the recipe, but it’s a keeper, and the curry mixture keeps well for a few days covered in the refrigerator.…

Sourdough Bread

PollyNovember 29, 2018February 5, 2026

Recently, I have gotten into making Sourdough bread. I have posted my recipe below. I’m not pro! I probably don’t have the optimal crumb, air pockets, “ear” and what all, but the recipe is reliable and the bread is delicious.…

British Pork Pie

PollyMarch 13, 2018March 7, 2026

Finally!  A Pork Pie recipe that is pretty darn good and not that hard to produce! My Dad, a traditional Yorkshire-man, loved pork pies. I really, really wish he were still here to taste my version. To my mind, this…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
