In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! One caveat: I am not a food photographer or professional blogger. I have a cell phone, but harnessing the light and plating a dish are not skills of mine. Please don't judge a recipe by my photos. I promise your dishes will look much better IRL. Polly

Paddington Bear Cookies

PollyNovember 29, 2019January 13, 2026

What rock have I been hiding under?! Up until a few hours ago, I had no idea that Paddington Bear loves marmalade. A quote from Paddington Bear himself,  “A wise bear always keeps a marmalade sandwich in his hat in…

Fresh Corn Soup

PollyOctober 2, 2019January 13, 2026

This is such a plain and simple recipe, it’s hard to believe such a good tasting soup comes out of it! The ingredient list for this soup is so ordinary that it’s hard to imagine the exceptional taste.  Been there,…

Grandma’s Buttermilk Cornbread

PollyAugust 19, 2019January 13, 2026

As a young kid, Jiffy brand cornbread was my favorite and because it was cheap—about fifteen cents a box—it fit into my family’s budget.  The mix only required one egg and a ¼ cup of milk or water to make…

I love these! This recipe is one of my very favorite new recipes this year. I have my daughter, Abby, to thank for it. She’s been to a lot of Korean BBQ restaurants (I’ve been to none) and she fell…

Homemade Ranch Dressing

PollyJuly 9, 2019September 3, 2025

I had a rather unfortunate accident with a new immersion blender yesterday.  Ranch dressing EVERYWHERE, and very little left in the bowl.  Ranch dressing on the counter, down the doors, all over me, on the floor, on the backsplash! White…

Bon Appétit used to be my favorite food magazine, but it’s defunct now, sigh. But it lives on in all the recipes I’ve made, loved, saved, and reposted! Here’s one of my favorites 🙂 This recipe is for a very…

Italian Butter Cookies

PollyJuly 3, 2019January 13, 2026

I love these cookies. Not Italian Butter Cookies from a package. Not the ones from the bakery. The ones made at home. With butter. And no preservatives. I’m sure you’ve all seen these cookies. I swear they are in every…

Raspberry-Ricotta Snack Cake

Delicious, light and moist, unassuming and satisfying. It’s good for breakfast, it’s good for a light dessert, and it’s good for an afternoon tea or snack. It’s good for company, it’s good for a family treat, and it’s good for…
