In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! Let me know if you try something!

Gringo Grandma’s Chili

PollyNovember 30, 2010February 5, 2026

Gingo Grandma’s chili!  That’s me!  This is my chili!  You’ve probably guessed that this is NOT serious cook-off chili. This is big pot, throw-it-all-together, family friendly, low-budget chili—chili that everyone likes! Chili with ground meat! And beans! Oh, my! A recipe…

Baked Artichoke Spinach Lusciousness

PollyNovember 26, 2010July 27, 2025

I remembered my friend Candace had swooned over a Warm Spinach and Artichoke dip she had ordered at Applebee’s recently, then I stumbled upon a recipe that I thought might be similar. And it was from one of my favorite recipe…

Cranberry-Blueberry Pie

PollyNovember 23, 2010August 28, 2025

Looking for a last minute new pie for Thanksgiving? Then, here it is—Cranberry-Blueberry Pie! I served it to my Together Women Rise group last night with a scoop of Cinnamon Ice Cream. There were some happy hums, some moans and several…

Pumpkin Pancakes with Maple Apples

PollyNovember 23, 2010October 11, 2025

My daughter, Hannah, has started a new Thanksgiving tradition for our family, and I rather like it.  She invites our neighbors and friends over for Pumpkin Pancakes on Thanksgiving morning. She suggests they come in their jammies, too! I am not seen…

Cinnamon Ice Cream

PollyNovember 21, 2010August 28, 2025

I had heard about cinnamon ice cream a year or so ago and was instantly intrigued—it sounded lovely.  Odd, but lovely, and I had a feeling—foodie intuition, if I may be so bold—that Cinnamon Ice Cream would be the perfect…

Basil Mashed Potatoes

PollyNovember 21, 2010July 27, 2025

I hope you are going to the Farmer’s market this weekend! I was there last week, and there were lovely large bunches of fresh basil. Buy a bunch! Get some potatoes, too—Yukon Golds or white boiling potatoes would be good.…

Turkey Dressing/Stuffing

PollyNovember 20, 2010August 28, 2025

Yesterday I went to Costco and Trader Joe’s.  Both places had samples of make-it-from-a-box turkey dressing. Did they think the samples would entice people to buy that stuff? What WAS it? The texture was glue-y, the taste was, was…, sigh. There was…

Glazed Pork Chop for One

PollyNovember 15, 2010July 14, 2025

My nineteen-year-old daughter whipped this up for her dinner—over high heat—in her on-campus apartment over the weekend.  The firefighters came to call, in their big red truck, with the sirens blaring.  She’d set off the smoke alarm—with one pork chop!…
