In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! Let me know if you try something!

Two Guinness Chocolate Cakes

St. Patrick’s Day! Irish+St. Patrick’s Day=Guinness! This recipe makes two lovely bundt cakes—it can be halved, but why?? One for home, one for the pot-luck, or one for the party and one for the teachers’ break room! I doubt it…

Raisin, Oatmeal, Banana Pancakes aka ROBcakes

PollyJuly 5, 2010August 22, 2025

March can be pretty depressing. It’s cold, it’s windy, and there were no diamonds for you on Valentine’s Day—again. You bought yourself some chocolates—twice—and ate all of them in front of the TV while the gym took their automatic payment…

Baked Orange Coconut Crisp

PollyJuly 5, 2010August 20, 2025

Take advantage of the season’s orange bounty by making this delicious, and out of the ordinary, Orange Coconut Crisp. I’d not been introduced to an orange crisp until I saw this recipe in the November 2004 issue of Cooking Light…

Pickle Fried Chicken

Pickle Fried Chicken! Was it something I dreamed? I couldn’t find the recipe that I thought I had seen  anywhere! I searched all of the food magazines I’d bought recently, even the not-so-recently, and then all of the none food…

Mocha Ice Cream

PollyJune 10, 2010July 30, 2025

The clear winner in the most recent ice cream Taste Test Extravaganza? Mocha! It’s creamy, it’s chocolatey, and it has a lovely coffee under-flavor—is that a word? Hrmm, I don’t think so, but it should be! And the coffee flavor?…
