In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! Let me know if you try something!

Grilled Orange Glazed Shrimp

PollyJuly 22, 2010August 28, 2025

Perfect! Three ingredients, a bit of salt and pepper, then quickly grilled on a skewer! It’s a pretty simple dish, and pretty simple in taste, too. Sometimes, that’s all one wants! It’s fancy enough to serve to guests, especially to…

Grilled Ahi Tuna

PollyJuly 14, 2010September 16, 2025

Ahi Tuna, grilled, and rare—it’s not just restaurant fare, you know! Costco sells great Ahi Tuna steaks. There’s nothing fishy about this fish! Ahi Tuna is absolutely wonderful, it’s good for you, and it can be on the table in…

Molly Wizenberg’s Winning-Hearts-and-Minds Cake

PollyJuly 14, 2010August 4, 2025

It’s a one layer cake. Rustic looking. Uneven. No frosting. No filling. But! Fabulous. FAB-YOOO-LICIOUS! The outside is lightly crispy, lightly crunchy, and the inside is soft, creamy, and rich. One tablespoon of flour holds the chocolate, sugar, eggs and…

Turkey Reuben Burger

PollyJuly 10, 2010August 28, 2025

Finally, a real alternative to a hamburger, a Turkey Reuben Burger/Sandwich! It’s tasty, it’s filling, and it’s not that hard to prepare! And that first bite? You’ll moan—really! Oh my, I just thought how great this would be with some…

Amazing Overnight Waffles and Fresh Blueberry Sauce

PollyJuly 10, 2010August 4, 2025

These waffles are delicious; the first bite has a wonderfully light crispness to it, and I know you’ll love it! The waffle batter is mixed the night before, covered and set out on the counter to ferment a bit. In…

Orange Sherbet

PollyJuly 10, 2010July 30, 2025

Paula Deen disappointed me with her Orange Cake, but not with her Orange Sherbet! This is one of those “Philadelphia-Style” ice creams that I am so crazy about. There’s no custard to make and no eggy taste to the resulting…

Andes Mint Chip Ice Cream

PollyJuly 10, 2010August 13, 2025

You know I couldn’t make just one, didn’t you?! Here’s ANOTHER really, really good Philadelphia Style ice cream! Philadelphia Style ice cream is, without a doubt, my choice for ice cream—it tastes lighter and it’s sooo much simpler to make.…

Peanut Butter Pancakes

PollyJuly 8, 2010November 29, 2025

I have two daughters—one of them loves all things peanut butter; the other one despises all things peanut butter. The one who loves all things peanut butter is home. She’s working four part-time jobs and taking a summer class at…
