Pumpkin-Chocolate Cake

PollyOctober 25, 2023December 2, 2025

This is the BEST cake to serve at this time of year (or any other time of the year, actually)!  It’s a good chocolate cake – a very, very good chocolate cake; it’s moist, and nicely chocolate-y, and made richer with some pumpkin…

Pumpkin Spice Biscotti

PollyOctober 15, 2023January 13, 2026

It’s that time of year—let the fall baking commence! I’ve started with these Pumpkin Spice Latte Biscotti, my entry for my cookbook club’s ‘Pumpkin Dessert Showstopper Challenge‘ last year—sometimes we act like we are contestants on the mythical ‘Great American…

Chocolate Covered Caramel Graham Crackers

PollyMarch 29, 2023January 13, 2026

This recipe is rustic, quick, and done in 20 minutes!  But once made, the bars have to sit in the refrigerator to harden up a bit 🙂 The finished product also freezes well, so it’s okay to make ahead or…

Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies

PollyDecember 21, 2021January 13, 2026

Tomorrow we’re making Christmas sugar cookies then heading out to see the Christmas lights.  It’s finally beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here! This recipe is from King Arthur Flour, and the photo is from there, too. The…

Minty Malty Hot Chocolate

PollyDecember 20, 2021January 13, 2026

You HAVE to try this!  It’s delicious, and it’s mild and smooth and warm and comforting, and sooooo Christmas-y! I don’t know about you, but I don’t like bitter hot chocolate (Starbucks), and I don’t like hot chocolate that is so…

Italian Butter Cookies

PollyJuly 3, 2019January 13, 2026

I love these cookies. Not Italian Butter Cookies from a package. Not the ones from the bakery. The ones made at home. With butter. And no preservatives. I’m sure you’ve all seen these cookies. I swear they are in every…

Candy Cane Sparkle Cookies

PollyDecember 21, 2018January 13, 2026

Every Christmas has to include The Three Big Christmas Flavors: Egg Nog, Gingerbread, and Candy Cane! Here is a sugar cookie made with crushed candy canes—it’s delicious! The candy cane flavor is not overpowering, it’s just right, and the cookie…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
