Homemade Eggnog for Eggnog Lattes

PollyNovember 20, 2018August 28, 2025

Years ago I had my first Eggnog Latte at Starbucks and Eggnog Lattes quickly became my favorite seasonal treat. They are rich, creamy, slightly spiced, slightly sweet, and caffeinated. A warm sip of heaven in a cup, sigh. Having a…

Salmon-Spinach Breakfast Roll-up

PollyMarch 18, 2012August 28, 2025

My friend Karin made this for our Cookbook Club’s Snow Holiday.  I ate it the morning she made it, and had it again for the following three mornings…loved it! She learned to make this from her cousin in Germany; she’d…

Tangerine Sugar Cookies

PollyDecember 9, 2010January 13, 2026

This cookie is new to me this year, but I think it will be making regular appearances from here on out.  I was a little hesitant to make this cookie because it has olive oil in it. Olive oil? I know olive…

Triple C Bars (Chocolate-Caramel-Coconut Cookies)

PollyDecember 6, 2010December 10, 2025

Coconut Bars are a new addition to my repertoire this year. Over the past month or so I’ve spent a bit of time trying to cook my way through The Gourmet Cookie Book: The Single Best Recipe From Each Year 1941-2009…

English Caramel Bars (Millionaire Bars)

PollyDecember 3, 2010January 13, 2026

When I was a kid growing up in the north of England, Caramel Bars were my very favorite tea time treat.  My Dad taught me to lick the top of the bar—then announce it loudly—so no one else would select…

Jam Pinwheels

PollyDecember 2, 2010January 13, 2026

I firmly believe every cookie tray needs an old fashioned jam cookie. Those coconut, chocolate, peanut butter, peppermint, gingerbread, sugared pecan concoctions have their place but, in the midst of such chaos, a straightforward old fashioned cookie is just the thing.  …

Gingerbread Cookies with Royal Icing

PollyDecember 1, 2010January 13, 2026

Every Christmas cookie plate needs an old fashioned Gingerbread cookie! I have been using this recipe for years. The cookie is sturdy, bakes flat and although it has a pronounced gingerbread taste, it’s not overwhelming; kids can decorate it without it…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
