Gingerbread Cookies with Royal Icing

PollyDecember 1, 2010January 13, 2026

Every Christmas cookie plate needs an old fashioned Gingerbread cookie! I have been using this recipe for years. The cookie is sturdy, bakes flat and although it has a pronounced gingerbread taste, it’s not overwhelming; kids can decorate it without it…

Pumpkin Pancakes with Maple Apples

PollyNovember 23, 2010October 11, 2025

My daughter, Hannah, has started a new Thanksgiving tradition for our family, and I rather like it.  She invites our neighbors and friends over for Pumpkin Pancakes on Thanksgiving morning. She suggests they come in their jammies, too! I am not seen…

Turkey Dressing/Stuffing

PollyNovember 20, 2010August 28, 2025

Yesterday I went to Costco and Trader Joe’s.  Both places had samples of make-it-from-a-box turkey dressing. Did they think the samples would entice people to buy that stuff? What WAS it? The texture was glue-y, the taste was, was…, sigh. There was…

Poached Pear Salad

PollyNovember 15, 2010August 28, 2025

Poached Pear Salad is ideal for any fancy meal and also be good for a light lunch when paired—peared! now there’s a joke in the making—when paired with a sandwich or quiche, baked potato or flat bread, pizza or a…

Fun-Face Cookie-Pops

PollyOctober 27, 2010August 28, 2025

Is it a cookie? Is it a lollipop? It’s a Fun-Face Cookie-Pop! My kids loved these, both making them and eating them. We’ve been making these candy studded spice cookie pops every Fall since 1998, and unfortunately I don’t remember where I originally found the recipe. One…

Cheddar Cheese Crackers

PollyOctober 17, 2010August 28, 2025

Look what I made for my grandson’s Pups and Trucks birthday party, cheddar dog bone crackers! Aren’t they adorable? I think the two-year-olds, and their parents, are really going to enjoy them 🙂  I used a small cookie cutter to cut the bone…

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

PollyOctober 16, 2010December 2, 2025

My new favorite muffin recipe, just in time for your fall weekend baking:  Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins!  This muffin has been likened to the Starbucks Cream Cheese Pumpkin Muffins, and I think that’s a fair comparison, but I like this…

Chicken Enchiladas with Green Sauce

PollyMay 2, 2010April 26, 2026

Mmmm, must have been the thought of Cinco de Mayo, but I’ve finally found a great green sauce for enchiladas! Not spicy—though it would be easy to up the heat—but tasty and tangy, which it should be, having being made…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
