Minty Malty Hot Chocolate

PollyDecember 20, 2021January 13, 2026

You HAVE to try this!  It’s delicious, and it’s mild and smooth and warm and comforting, and sooooo Christmas-y! I don’t know about you, but I don’t like bitter hot chocolate (Starbucks), and I don’t like hot chocolate that is so…

I know, I know, this isn’t a great picture.  Please don’t let that put you off though!  This is a delicious cake, one of my best! I found the original recipe on epicurious.com the year that my twins graduated from high…

Peanut Butter Blossoms

There are other cookies on this plate, but this recipe is for the large cookie on each side of the plate, the one with either a Hershey’s Hugs or Kiss in the middle. My daughter, Abby, is the cookie-baker in…

Candy Cane Sparkle Cookies

PollyDecember 21, 2018January 13, 2026

Every Christmas has to include The Three Big Christmas Flavors: Egg Nog, Gingerbread, and Candy Cane! Here is a sugar cookie made with crushed candy canes—it’s delicious! The candy cane flavor is not overpowering, it’s just right, and the cookie…

Homemade Eggnog for Eggnog Lattes

PollyNovember 20, 2018August 28, 2025

Years ago I had my first Eggnog Latte at Starbucks and Eggnog Lattes quickly became my favorite seasonal treat. They are rich, creamy, slightly spiced, slightly sweet, and caffeinated. A warm sip of heaven in a cup, sigh. Having a…

PollyMarch 8, 2014August 28, 2025

I had never, ever heard of kipferls before. Then, in two weeks they came into my life twice! First, my friend Priscilla made some in the Culinary School Pastry Arts program she is enrolled in. I didn’t try one because…

Chai Hot Chocolate For Two

PollyFebruary 26, 2011February 5, 2026

Time to huddle in front of the fire with a good book, a quilt, and a cup of grown up hot chocolate, Chai Hot Chocolate. I think you’ll like this; it’s familiar but different, and it’s lighter than regular hot chocolate.…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
