Fresh Corn Soup

PollyOctober 2, 2019August 28, 2025

This is such a plain and simple recipe, it’s hard to believe such a good tasting soup comes out of it! The ingredient list for this soup is so ordinary that it’s hard to imagine the exceptional taste.  Been there,…

Strawberry Shortcake

PollyJune 23, 2019August 28, 2025

I think this rustic, coarse, only slightly sweet biscuit-type cake base saturated with sweetened sliced strawberries and lots and lots of sweetened whipped cream is just about perfect. If you like sweet, soft, cake-y strawberry shortcake—the highly processed “cake” found…

Summer Berry Bars

PollyJune 20, 2019August 28, 2025

Have you ever made a cover recipe? I’ve made enough of them to figure out that cover recipes are usually a pretty good bet! My daughter saw this cover and said she wanted me to make them for July 4th…

Cherry Limeade

PollyMay 27, 2019August 28, 2025

As a non-drinker of anything alcoholic, compounded by being a non-soda drinker, and not being especially thrilled about water, I am excited when I find something special to drink. This is one of my favorite special drinks, Cherry Limeade! It’s…

Homemade Eggnog for Eggnog Lattes

PollyNovember 20, 2018August 28, 2025

Years ago I had my first Eggnog Latte at Starbucks and Eggnog Lattes quickly became my favorite seasonal treat. They are rich, creamy, slightly spiced, slightly sweet, and caffeinated. A warm sip of heaven in a cup, sigh. Having a…

‘Magic Shell’ Topping for Ice Cream

PollyJuly 21, 2013August 28, 2025

It’s summer!  Time for ice cream, and one of the easiest recipes ever posted on this site! Magic Shell! You know the stuff, right?  You squeeze the chocolate-y liquid onto ice cream and it hardens up almost immediately.  Then you…

Peach Iced Tea

PollyJune 8, 2013August 28, 2025

This tea, as is, is not too sweet, and definitely has a pronounced peach flavor; it’s like Snapple Peach Iced Tea, only better!  Make the big-batch peach base to keep in the freezer and you’ll be able to whip up…

Sparkling Watermelon Lemonade

PollySeptember 4, 2011August 28, 2025

Last family BBQ of the season?  I wish I had posted this recipe as a season opener so that we could have had enjoyed this drink throughout the summer, but at least it is posted in time for the last…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
