Polly’s Yorkshire Puddings

PollyNovember 19, 2024August 28, 2025

Every good English roast dinner needs Yorkshire Puddings and gravy. My aunts made Yorkshire Puddings like it was nothing. They just whipped them out, popped them in the oven, and every one turned out perfectly. Not so for me. To…

Butternut Squash : Little Pieces of Heaven

PollyAugust 3, 2024August 28, 2025

No one ever makes this recipe when I suggest it to them, EVER.   The recipe is just so…odd.  Mere mortals can’t put the ingredients together in their head and have any idea about how GOOD butternut squash tastes when…

Bloomin’ Onion Tear and Share Loaf

You know how you read a recipe and you just KNOW it’s going to be good?  This was one of those recipes—a Sourdough bread round, cheese, butter, green onions and a sprinkling of poppy seeds, baked.  What’s not to like?…

Potatoes Baked in Cream

Did the name of the recipe entice you click on this?! Well then, that makes us friends forever! When my friends from Southern France were staying with us, they offered to make a side dish for dinner.  They didn’t use a recipe. They…

Absurdly Addictive Asparagus

PollyJanuary 30, 2021August 28, 2025

I belong to a cookbook club, and we meet every month to feed each other some spectacular food and their recipes. Sometimes the meetings follow a theme like “Your Mom’s Best Recipe” or “Picnic Food“. Sometimes the meetings are from…

Polly’s Mac n’ Cheese

PollyNovember 29, 2020August 28, 2025

Yep, I’m totally claimin’ it—Polly’s Mac n’ Cheese! I’ve been promising to post this recipe forever, but I’ve held off because it’s impossible (for me anyway) to get a good picture of Mac n’ Cheese! And the issue is partly…

Fresh Corn Soup

PollyOctober 2, 2019February 5, 2026

This is such a plain and simple recipe, it’s hard to believe such a good tasting soup comes out of it! The ingredient list for this soup is so ordinary that it’s hard to imagine the exceptional taste.  Been there,…

Homemade Ranch Dressing

PollyJuly 9, 2019September 3, 2025

I had a rather unfortunate accident with a new immersion blender yesterday.  Ranch dressing EVERYWHERE, and very little left in the bowl.  Ranch dressing on the counter, down the doors, all over me, on the floor, on the backsplash! White…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
