Apricot Cream Scones

PollyJuly 22, 2025July 30, 2025

This is my all-time favorite American-style scone—no butter or jam needed! The chopped white chocolate and diced apricots provide plenty of sweetness, and there’s no butter in this recipe, but there’s plenty of cream! The original version of this recipe…

Traditional English Scones, Yorkshire Edition

PollyJuly 21, 2024August 5, 2025

This picture is a bit embarrassing. Classic British Scones are neater, straighter, and slightly smaller than the ones pictured here 🙂 When British people talk about scones, what they are picturing is a simple raisin scone. The one alternative to…

Smoked Chicken Almond Sandwiches

I enjoy inviting my friends over for an English Tea a few times a year. Some tea sandwiches rotate in and out, but two seem to always make it on the menu—this sandwich and my Chicken Curry Sandwiches. Tea sandwiches…

Chicken Curry Tea Sandwiches

PollyDecember 22, 2018July 18, 2025

Chicken Curry finger sandwiches have been a staple at my English Teas for decades. I don’t remember where I found the recipe, but it’s a keeper, and the curry mixture keeps well for a few days covered in the refrigerator.…

Microwave Lemon Curd

Lemon Curd [lemen kerd] n. 1 a wonderful treat cursed with an unfortunate name. 2 a custard made with lemon juice, butter, sugar, and eggs and used as a spread or filling. She spread the tasty lemon curd on her…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
