Atlantic Beach Lemon Pie

PollyJuly 8, 2017April 26, 2026

It’s citrusy, and it’s salty, and it’s creamy, and it’s tangy, and it’s delicious. Ever heard of Atlantic Beach Lemon Pie? I hadn’t either.  I guess this pie had been a big deal back in North Carolina in the 50s (Crook’s…

Italian Wedding Soup

PollyFebruary 24, 2017February 5, 2026

Italian Wedding Soup is easy to make, and is good as soon as it’s made—no need to sit overnight to intensify the flavors! Not being Italian, I can’t claim this is just like my Nonna made, nor can I claim…

Polly’s BBQ Sauce

PollyFebruary 16, 2017September 16, 2025

Homemade BBQ sauce is easy to make and it tastes so much better that that squeeze bottle of chemicals with a two-year shelf life! And you can use it on anything! Chicken, ribs, burgers, steak… 🙂 The original recipe for…

Homemade Ketchup

PollyJuly 26, 2016August 28, 2025

Every year I plant tomatoes and every year, for a period of a few weeks, I have more tomatoes than any one family could ever use. I have some recipes on this blog that call for a lot of homegrown…

Curried Chicken Meatballs with Apricot Rice Pilaf

PollyJuly 24, 2014July 10, 2025

This recipe is from one of America’s Test Kitchen 30-minute Meals cookbooks.  The meatballs, although very simple with a very plain list of ingredients, are quite tasty. I wanted to up the curry powder just a bit, but my offspring vetoed that…

Toasted Coconut Waffles

PollyJuly 20, 2014July 11, 2025

I know there is no toasted coconut on the top of this waffle. Oops! It was all gone before I took the picture. Don’t do this! Put toasted coconut in your waffle batter and save some to sprinkle on top…

Kipferls – Vanilla Hazelnut Butter Cookies

PollyMarch 8, 2014August 28, 2025

I had never, ever heard of kipferls before. Then, in two weeks they came into my life twice! First, my friend Priscilla made some in the Culinary School Pastry Arts program she is enrolled in. I didn’t try one because…

Once a year I host a book club meeting at my house, and my night was last night.  The book was “The Book Thief” so the theme was German food.  Thanks to input from the internet, I decided to make a…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
