In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! One caveat: I am not a food photographer or professional blogger. I have a cell phone, but harnessing the light and plating a dish are not skills of mine. Please don't judge a recipe by my photos. I promise your dishes will look much better IRL. Polly

Fresh Strawberry Pie

PollyJune 30, 2025August 28, 2025

This is a summertime staple around here, and has been for years. A coworker gave me this recipe back in the 1990s, I believe. A decade or so later, I passed the recipe on to a young, emerging cook, and…

Coconut Mango Cheesecake

PollyJune 29, 2025August 28, 2025

This is one of my favorite cheesecakes! It’s showy and special and tastes wonderful. The method for this cheesecake is different from my usual method, but it works like a dream. I’ve never had this cheesecake crack. The only tricky…

Spinach Dip

PollyJune 24, 2025August 6, 2025

Spinach Dip was at every party in the 80s, and the recipe came from the back of the Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix soup package. The recipe is no longer on the package, but is still featured on the Knorr website.…

Tropical Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

PollyApril 25, 2025August 28, 2025

The biggest issue with this dish is when to eat it! Is it a dessert? Appetizer? Snack? All three work, but I think the best is a quiet summer afternoon on the porch with a chilled beverage of choice. Tropical…

Onion Rings

PollyJanuary 26, 2025July 15, 2025

There are a lot of bad onion rings out there—I know.  If onion rings are on the menu, I will find a way to order them, but I rarely order them a second time at the same restaurant.  There used…

Polly’s Yorkshire Puddings

PollyNovember 19, 2024August 28, 2025

Every good English roast dinner needs Yorkshire Puddings and gravy. My aunts made Yorkshire Puddings like it was nothing. They just whipped them out, popped them in the oven, and every one turned out perfectly. Not so for me. To…

Chocolate Cookies with a Peanut Butter Surprise!

PollySeptember 14, 2024January 13, 2026

This cookie tastes much, much better than it looks. It also tastes much, much better than it’s list of ingredients. Take a bite; trust me!  There’s a layer of peanut butter inside!  As one of my friends said, one who shall…

Caprese Garlic Bread

PollySeptember 11, 2024August 28, 2025

It’s just garlic bread, folks, but it’s garlic bread with an upgrade! There are tomatoes, mozzarella and basil! After running across this recipe at Two Peas and their Pod,  I decided I needed to make it—now! I quickly sent texts to a few friends…
