Cream Cheese Frosting

PollyJanuary 29, 2011August 24, 2025

I have been in a funk all week—I made two more cakes from that book I was all aglow about last weekend, and I’m no longer glowing šŸ™ First off, I wanted to try the Red Velvet cake recipe; the…

Ina Garten’s Sour Cream Coffeecake

PollyJanuary 22, 2011August 19, 2025

Bake this!  It’s yummy.  Not too sweet. Classic coffee cake. Goes well with coffee.  Very well.  A nice Sunday breakfast or mid-morning snack. Or both. Winner, winner, winner! My son likes the two-day old leftovers so much he’s taking them back…

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins

PollyOctober 16, 2010December 2, 2025

My new favorite muffin recipe, just in time for your fall weekend baking:Ā  Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins!Ā  This muffin has been likened to the Starbucks Cream Cheese Pumpkin Muffins, and I think that’s a fair comparison, but I like this…

Veganized! Banana Chocolate Chip Coffeecake

This is a lovely, moistĀ banana cake with a crunchy, cinnamon-y, chocolate chip-y topping. I reduced the amount of sugarĀ in the original recipe from ¾ cup to 2/3 cup and eliminated the streusel layer in the center since theĀ toppingĀ has bothĀ brown sugar…

Molly Wizenberg’s Winning-Hearts-and-Minds Cake

It’s a one layer cake. Rustic looking. Uneven. No frosting. No filling. But! Fabulous. FAB-YOOO-LICIOUS! The outside is lightly crispy, lightly crunchy, and the inside is soft, creamy, and rich. One tablespoon of flour holds the chocolate, sugar, eggs and…

Two Guinness Chocolate Cakes

St. Patrick’s Day! Irish+St. Patrick’s Day=Guinness! This recipe makes two lovely bundt cakes—it can be halved, but why?? One for home, one for the pot-luck, or one for the party and one for the teachers’ break room! I doubt it…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
