Minty Malty Hot Chocolate

PollyDecember 20, 2021August 28, 2025

You HAVE to try this!  It’s delicious, and it’s mild and smooth and warm and comforting, and sooooo Christmas-y! I don’t know about you, but I don’t like bitter hot chocolate (Starbucks), and I don’t like hot chocolate that is so…

Italian Wedding Soup

PollyFebruary 24, 2017August 28, 2025

Italian Wedding Soup is easy to make, and is good as soon as it’s made—no need to sit overnight to intensify the flavors! Not being Italian, I can’t claim this is just like my Nonna made, nor can I claim…

A Crockpot of Beans!

PollyAugust 2, 2013August 28, 2025

I am so excited about this recipe!  It’s a paradigm shift recipe!  It’s not a recipe in the true sense of the word, it’s more of a road map to a particular destination. A road map allows for more flexibility…

Steak: Aged, Rubbed, Sautéed and Baked

My friend and webmaster told me this picture is awful. She said the steak looks dry. Hmpffff. It might be all that, but the recipe is a good one. Please don’t be put off by the horrible picture! Last weekend…

Chicken Tortilla Soup

PollyJanuary 30, 2013August 28, 2025

This soup is delicious—would I post it if it wasn’t?  Rhetorical question: of course not!—I am also posting this recipe because most everyone I know enjoys tortilla soup, but not many of us have a tried and true recipe in our…

Chai Hot Chocolate For Two

PollyFebruary 26, 2011August 28, 2025

Time to huddle in front of the fire with a good book, a quilt, and a cup of grown up hot chocolate, Chai Hot Chocolate. I think you’ll like this; it’s familiar but different, and it’s lighter than regular hot chocolate.…

French Hot Chocolate

PollyFebruary 13, 2011August 28, 2025

Just in time for Valentine’s Day—French Hot Chocolate! This is soooo good, made with real cream and real chocolate, and bearing no resemblance at all to that powdery mix in a paper packet. The serving ritual makes this really special.…

Caramel Corn

PollyFebruary 3, 2011August 28, 2025

Ooooh, Caramel Corn! Isn’t it lovely? You know I am not talking about that stale, pale, powdery stuff out of a bright and cheerful tin, right? I am talking about real Caramel Corn, the homemade variety!  Here’s the recipe I use—I think…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
