French Hot Chocolate

PollyFebruary 13, 2011February 5, 2026

Just in time for Valentine’s Day—French Hot Chocolate! This is soooo good, made with real cream and real chocolate, and bearing no resemblance at all to that powdery mix in a paper packet. The serving ritual makes this really special.…

Caramel Corn

PollyFebruary 3, 2011August 28, 2025

Ooooh, Caramel Corn! Isn’t it lovely? You know I am not talking about that stale, pale, powdery stuff out of a bright and cheerful tin, right? I am talking about real Caramel Corn, the homemade variety!  Here’s the recipe I use—I think…

Gringo Grandma’s Chili

PollyNovember 30, 2010February 5, 2026

Gingo Grandma’s chili!  That’s me!  This is my chili!  You’ve probably guessed that this is NOT serious cook-off chili. This is big pot, throw-it-all-together, family friendly, low-budget chili—chili that everyone likes! Chili with ground meat! And beans! Oh, my! A recipe…

French Onion Soup

PollyOctober 24, 2010February 5, 2026

As a newlywed, and married to a man who owned a copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, French Onion Soup was one of the first things I learned how to make well—thank you, Julia Child—and one of the…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
