Cream Cheese Frosting

PollyJanuary 29, 2011August 24, 2025

I have been in a funk all week—I made two more cakes from that book I was all aglow about last weekend, and I’m no longer glowing šŸ™ First off, I wanted to try the Red Velvet cake recipe; the…

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

PollyJanuary 16, 2011August 28, 2025

Brussels sprouts ruined every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for the first thirty years of my life.Ā It was a rule, in my parents’ house, that everyone had to eat one Brussels sprout at Thanksgiving dinner and another at Christmas dinner. I…

Banoffee Pie

Banoffee Pie! You’ve heard of it, right? Toffee, bananas and coffee flavored cream in a pastry crust? There are more to British desserts than Trifle, Spotted Dick, and Sticky Toffee Pudding, you know! This pie took the British Isles by…

Oven Baked Chicken Nuggets

PollyJanuary 10, 2011July 26, 2025

I know a thing or two about chicken nuggets as I have been making them for two decades with a recipe very similar to the one Sara Moulton contributed to The 150 Best American Recipes.Ā Sara calls her versionĀ  Garlicky Baked…

PollyJanuary 9, 2011July 26, 2025

One of our family favorites has always been our oven baked fries.Ā My friend Mary first made these for me about 25 years ago—I had been so impressed to arrive at her house for lunch and find a basket of home…

Gingo Grandma’s chili!Ā  That’s me!Ā  This is my chili!Ā  You’ve probably guessed that this is NOT serious cook-off chili.Ā This is big pot, throw-it-all-together, family friendly, low-budget chili—chili that everyone likes! Chili with ground meat! And beans! Oh, my! A recipe…

Glazed Pork Chop for One

PollyNovember 15, 2010July 14, 2025

My nineteen-year-old daughter whipped this up for her dinner—over high heat—in her on-campus apartment over the weekend.Ā  The firefighters came to call, in their big red truck, with the sirens blaring.Ā  She’d set off the smoke alarm—with one pork chop!…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
