In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! Let me know if you try something!

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

PollySeptember 24, 2010August 19, 2025

Who eats jarred spaghetti sauce?  I hope no one! I don’t; not ever. Well, I’ve had a spoonful here and there, so I do know how bad it is—which is generally too much vinegar. I like wine, tomatoes, onions, fresh mushrooms and…

With White Chocolate and Cherries! This recipe has been floating around the internet quite a bit lately—seems like everyone is making it! I found the recipe at My Baking Addiction. My verdict? This is a good seasonal cookie—the white chocolate and…

Hoisin Chicken in Lettuce Cups

PollySeptember 20, 2010August 2, 2025

Mmmmm… Hoisin chicken, wrapped in a crispy, iceberg lettuce leaf. I don’t remember where I found the original recipe, it was a few years ago. My daughter and I have tinkered with it a bit over the years and now we think…

Chocolate Mocha Tart

PollySeptember 20, 2010April 26, 2026

I wish I’d had this recipe decades ago! I had three small kids, and I had to take a lot of food to a lot of potlucks, meetings, classes, games, gatherings and parties 🙂 I also had to pull together a…

Lamb Meatballs in a Coconut Curry Sauce

This picture shows just half a recipe. I took one half to a potluck, and the other half I left home for the family 🙂 Another winner from the The Meatball Cookbook Bible!  My elder daughter has stopped by twice,…

Meatball Beef Stroganoff

PollySeptember 18, 2010August 2, 2025

So, I decided to go for a pedicure—unfortunately my nail salon is not known for having the most recent magazines with the biggest pictures, so I stopped on the way to treat myself to a glossy dose of gossip.  Wouldn’t…

Gingerbread Biscotti

PollySeptember 16, 2010January 13, 2026

This biscotti is not sweet and it’s lovely and crumbly, the perfect, light ‘little something’ with a fall cup of tea or coffee. I am quite proud of this recipe—I did my homework before I made it. I looked at a…

Drunken Pear Crisp with Cherries

PollySeptember 13, 2010August 28, 2025

Everyone who tried this last night—last night refers to one night in the fall of 2009—loved it, except for me! I didn’t fall in love with it until about an hour ago, when I had a bite of the leftovers—soooo…
