Depending on where you live, you may or may not have a proliferation of “Pho” restaurants in your community. If you do have a Pho restaurant nearby, I encourage you to try it out. You’ll be rewarded with a huge bowl of…

Oven Baked Chicken Nuggets

PollyJanuary 10, 2011July 26, 2025

I know a thing or two about chicken nuggets as I have been making them for two decades with a recipe very similar to the one Sara Moulton contributed to The 150 Best American Recipes. Sara calls her version  Garlicky Baked…

Gringo Grandma’s Chili

PollyNovember 30, 2010February 5, 2026

Gingo Grandma’s chili!  That’s me!  This is my chili!  You’ve probably guessed that this is NOT serious cook-off chili. This is big pot, throw-it-all-together, family friendly, low-budget chili—chili that everyone likes! Chili with ground meat! And beans! Oh, my! A recipe…

Glazed Pork Chop for One

PollyNovember 15, 2010July 14, 2025

My nineteen-year-old daughter whipped this up for her dinner—over high heat—in her on-campus apartment over the weekend.  The firefighters came to call, in their big red truck, with the sirens blaring.  She’d set off the smoke alarm—with one pork chop!…

With New Potatoes and Seared Asparagus Spears! My friend John, the rugged, he-man, Lake Superior Chef of Asian Glazed Thigh fame, has submitted another recipe. I am posting this now because it sounds like it’s just the thing for a…

Chinese Chicken Salad

PollySeptember 29, 2010August 28, 2025

Chinese Chicken Salad: it’s crisp, tasty, and refreshing! My version is made with cabbage, two kinds, which hold up better than lettuce—lettuce is boring, and in almost every other salad—how many chances do you have to eat raw cabbage? Not…

Baked Chicken Taquitos

PollySeptember 25, 2010August 19, 2025

Yes! You can bake taquitos! Who knew? My kids loved taquitos when they were growing up. They were always happy when there was a box of them in the freezer. I wish I knew then what I know now. I could have made batches of…

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

PollySeptember 24, 2010August 19, 2025

Who eats jarred spaghetti sauce?  I hope no one! I don’t; not ever. Well, I’ve had a spoonful here and there, so I do know how bad it is—which is generally too much vinegar. I like wine, tomatoes, onions, fresh mushrooms and…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
