Ina Garten’s Cheese Danish

PollyOctober 14, 2010September 3, 2025

My daughter, who shall remain nameless (so I don’t embarrass her, HA!), has a crazy crush on a French exchange student. It’s one exchange student in particular, but there are about thirty others she’s crazy about if this one doesn’t…

Salted Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats

PollySeptember 30, 2010August 1, 2025

In our recent Rice Krispie Treats taste tests, these were definitely the winners! I think they won because they tasted the most like traditional Rice Krispie Treats, but were cranked up a notch, a big notch! The browned butter and the sea…

Coconut Rice Krispie Treats

PollySeptember 30, 2010August 1, 2025

I looooove coconut so much that I had to make these—had to! And I’m glad I did, too. This recipe is a keeper! I found this recipe at Craving Chronicles but had to change it up a bit—I wish I’d…

Chocolate-Chocolate Cherry Rice Krispie Treats

PollySeptember 30, 2010March 7, 2026

For years I had forgotten about Rice Krispie Treats, thinking of them as kid stuff, when a neighbor brought a batch to a block party—I went wild! Rice Krispie Treats are officially one of my danger foods now—don’t leave me…

Chinese Chicken Salad

PollySeptember 29, 2010August 28, 2025

Chinese Chicken Salad: it’s crisp, tasty, and refreshing! My version is made with cabbage, two kinds, which hold up better than lettuce—lettuce is boring, and in almost every other salad—how many chances do you have to eat raw cabbage? Not…

Chinese Pasta Salad??

PollySeptember 28, 2010August 19, 2025

Chinese Pasta Salad? Is there such a thing? I doubt it—so what is this?! I don’t know what else to call it! Chinese Pasta Salad is the name it arrived with and I welcome all suggestions for a new name 🙂 This cold…

Baked Chicken Taquitos

PollySeptember 25, 2010August 19, 2025

Yes! You can bake taquitos! Who knew? My kids loved taquitos when they were growing up. They were always happy when there was a box of them in the freezer. I wish I knew then what I know now. I could have made batches of…

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

PollySeptember 24, 2010August 19, 2025

Who eats jarred spaghetti sauce?  I hope no one! I don’t; not ever. Well, I’ve had a spoonful here and there, so I do know how bad it is—which is generally too much vinegar. I like wine, tomatoes, onions, fresh mushrooms and…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
