Hoisin Chicken in Lettuce Cups

PollySeptember 20, 2010August 2, 2025

Mmmmm… Hoisin chicken, wrapped in a crispy, iceberg lettuce leaf. I don’t remember where I found the original recipe, it was a few years ago. My daughter and I have tinkered with it a bit over the years and now we think…

Chocolate Mocha Tart

PollySeptember 20, 2010February 5, 2026

I wish I’d had this recipe decades ago! I had three small kids, and I had to take a lot of food to a lot of potlucks, meetings, classes, games, gatherings and parties 🙂 I also had to pull together a…

Lamb Meatballs in a Coconut Curry Sauce

This picture shows just half a recipe. I took one half to a potluck, and the other half I left home for the family 🙂 Another winner from the The Meatball Cookbook Bible!  My elder daughter has stopped by twice,…

Gingerbread Biscotti

PollySeptember 16, 2010January 13, 2026

This biscotti is not sweet and it’s lovely and crumbly, the perfect, light ‘little something’ with a fall cup of tea or coffee. I am quite proud of this recipe—I did my homework before I made it. I looked at a…

Drunken Pear Crisp with Cherries

PollySeptember 13, 2010August 28, 2025

Everyone who tried this last night—last night refers to one night in the fall of 2009—loved it, except for me! I didn’t fall in love with it until about an hour ago, when I had a bite of the leftovers—soooo…

Crockpot Pizza Sauce, Bread Machine Pizza Dough, and a Good Cheese Blend

PollySeptember 10, 2010August 3, 2025

I’ve finally found something that the crockpot excels in—excels in! This is not just a recipe that can be cooked in the crockpot, it’s a recipe that should be cooked in a crockpot! Yes, a recipe that tastes best cooked in…

World Peace Cookies 1.0 and 2.0

PollySeptember 6, 2010August 3, 2025

Dorrie Greenspan‘s most famous recipe, World Peace Cookies, screams chocolate; yes, screams!  It’s a roll-and-slice dough made with lots of chopped bittersweet chocolate. The texture of the cookie approaches that of shortbread, but it’s not as crumbly. Roll-and-slice cookies are a…

Green Rice | Arroz Verde

PollyAugust 31, 2010August 4, 2025

Finally, a new rice side-dish; one that both looks good on the plate and is deliciously, delicately flavored. Odd, that you cook the rice in pureed spinach, poblano peppers, cilantro and milk, but it works! Don’t let the name-or the method-scare…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
