In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! Let me know if you try something!

Banana Chocolate Chip Coffeecake

PollyFebruary 1, 2010March 7, 2026

This is my kids’ favorite, so perhaps I should call it a snack cake rather than a coffeecake. Anyway, I made one this morning, and it was gone in flash. Whatever you call it, it’s baked in a 9x9x2″ pan,…

Lemon-Poppy Seed Bread

PollyJanuary 31, 2010August 18, 2025

Bread isn’t quite the right word for this. Yes, the batter is baked in loaf pans, but it has a finer texture than a quick bread, it’s really more of a cake, a cake that doesn’t need frosting 🙂 I…

“World’s Best” Peanut Butter Cookies

PollyJanuary 31, 2010August 3, 2025

This recipe has been around for ages; I’m sure you’ve heard of it. It’s been billed as the World’s Best Peanut Butter Cookie. The ingredients are peanut butter, egg, sugar, and that’s it—no flour. The cookies taste to me, and…

Vanilla & Peppermint Marshmallows

PollyJanuary 27, 2010January 13, 2026

Today I was transported back to my childhood, when it was just fun to play in the kitchen! The mess was fun, the creation was fun, and if the product was edible, it was magic! I made magic today—along with…

Fisherman’s Pie

PollyJanuary 25, 2010August 18, 2025

I’m from England, and Shepherd’s Pie—a casserole of ground meat, veggies, and mashed potatoes—is my heritage. There’s also Fisherman’s Pie, and I’m guessing you’ve never made that one, so here’s my basic recipe. Feel free to change it up a…

Bavarian Coffeecake – A Bread Machine Recipe

PollyJanuary 24, 2010August 18, 2025

I remember getting my first bread machine and the thrill of finally being able to make edible yeast bread.  For awhile there I was making a loaf or two a week. I made all kinds of crazy concoctions, and most…

Rustic Rosemary Bread

PollyJanuary 24, 2010February 5, 2026

My webmaster’s sister, Jocelyn, gave me this recipe last summer. A no-knead bread, that makes TWO loaves, with VERY little mess—WOWZACOWZA! I added a little sprinkle of salt, cornmeal, and extra rosemary to the crust before baking which, I think,…

Sweet & Spicy Glazed Bacon

PollyJanuary 22, 2010August 28, 2025

It’s sweet, it’s salty, it’s spicy—we’re talking some serious yumminess here! Take a good quality, thick-sliced bacon, sprinkle it with light brown sugar, cayenne and black pepper, bake until sizzling hot, crispy and sticky—Oh myyyy, YUM. My friend, Jamie said,…
