Sweet and Cinnamon-y Apple Bread

PollySeptember 9, 2023August 28, 2025

Bread baking is my Everest—meaning I haven’t conquered it yet! I’m not even at base camp so the bread recipes that appeal to me are easy and pretty much foolproof 🙂  Here’s one of my favorites! The recipe is so…

Pumpkin Roll

PollySeptember 24, 2022September 16, 2025

One of my friends has been making these for years.  I was intrigued by her pictures posted on Facebook of roll, after roll, after roll lined up along her kitchen counter, and then the comments from a number of people…

Cracked Sugar Pumpkin-Apple Muffins

PollySeptember 11, 2022September 16, 2025

Pumpkin isn’t only for October and November, you know.  I hope you have an extra can or two of pumpkin puree on hand for the other ten months of the year 🙂  This isn’t a pumpkin muffin, and it isn’t…

Minty Malty Hot Chocolate

PollyDecember 20, 2021August 28, 2025

You HAVE to try this!  It’s delicious, and it’s mild and smooth and warm and comforting, and sooooo Christmas-y! I don’t know about you, but I don’t like bitter hot chocolate (Starbucks), and I don’t like hot chocolate that is so…

Fresh Corn Soup

PollyOctober 2, 2019August 28, 2025

This is such a plain and simple recipe, it’s hard to believe such a good tasting soup comes out of it! The ingredient list for this soup is so ordinary that it’s hard to imagine the exceptional taste.  Been there,…

Homemade Eggnog for Eggnog Lattes

PollyNovember 20, 2018August 28, 2025

Years ago I had my first Eggnog Latte at Starbucks and Eggnog Lattes quickly became my favorite seasonal treat. They are rich, creamy, slightly spiced, slightly sweet, and caffeinated. A warm sip of heaven in a cup, sigh. Having a…

Crab and Brie Macaroni and Cheese

PollyJune 24, 2013August 28, 2025

Whooooa Nelly!  Crab and Brie Macaroni and Cheese?  Over-the-top decadence in a comfort food?  YEP! And the decadence makes the comfort food even more comforting—like ‘died and gone to heaven’ comforting!  Yet another winning recipe from the Better Homes and…

Chicken Tortilla Soup

PollyJanuary 30, 2013August 28, 2025

This soup is delicious—would I post it if it wasn’t?  Rhetorical question: of course not!—I am also posting this recipe because most everyone I know enjoys tortilla soup, but not many of us have a tried and true recipe in our…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
