Frozen Bananas (with or without Peanut Butter)

PollyJune 4, 2011August 28, 2025

I’ve been making frozen bananas for a long time and have decided that Hershey’s Special Dark is the best chocolate to compliment the taste of the banana—odd, since I am usually a milk chocolate devotee. It is also the most…

Strawberry Sandwiches

PollyJanuary 31, 2011August 28, 2025

I have never seen a recipe published for this sandwich, but it’s one of my favorites—probably because it’s more like a dessert than a sandwich! I have my demons, and all of them are sweet 🙂 I first encountered this sandwich…

Poached Pear Salad

PollyNovember 15, 2010August 28, 2025

Poached Pear Salad is ideal for any fancy meal and also be good for a light lunch when paired—peared! now there’s a joke in the making—when paired with a sandwich or quiche, baked potato or flat bread, pizza or a…

Vegan Chocolate Cranberry Orange Marmalade Cookies

JocelynSeptember 18, 2010August 3, 2025

This is a tweaked version of a Veganomicon recipe for Chocolate Raspberry Cookies. I didn’t care for the seeds too much, in the original recipe, and I thought the raspberry flavor wasn’t quite strong enough. It was kind of a “there’s something…

Drunken Pear Crisp with Cherries

PollySeptember 13, 2010August 28, 2025

Everyone who tried this last night—last night refers to one night in the fall of 2009—loved it, except for me! I didn’t fall in love with it until about an hour ago, when I had a bite of the leftovers—soooo…

Veganized! Banana Chocolate Chip Coffeecake

JocelynSeptember 13, 2010August 3, 2025

This is a lovely, moist banana cake with a crunchy, cinnamon-y, chocolate chip-y topping. I reduced the amount of sugar in the original recipe from ¾ cup to 2/3 cup and eliminated the streusel layer in the center since the topping has both brown sugar…

No Pectin Fresh Strawberry Jam

PollyJuly 31, 2010August 4, 2025

We have a strawberry delivery person in our neighborhood. He first knocked on my door pulling strawberries in a rickety Red Flyer wagon—now he drives a fancy van. He used to just bring strawberries. Now he brings strawberries, mangoes and…

About Me

polly of the kitchen

It's all about the recipe—really, it is! I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, and a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes! When I find a recipe I LOVE, I can't wait to share it. I started In the Kitchen with Polly on January 01, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, ratty (not a joke—ratty is her chosen nickname—her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself!). Last year we hit a snag—the website went up in monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted, many pictures retaken. It's done now though, and we are back! I like this brighter version :) Scroll through! Find something you like, and let's get cooking! There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of each post.

Enjoy!
