In the Kitchen with Polly

"It's all about the recipe!"

Author: Polly

It's all about the recipe. Really, it is. I have amassed quite a collection of recipes from my favorite cookbooks, food magazines, friends, the Internet, and more recently my adult daughters. I test every recipe I post. Some I've been cooking for years, decades even, a few I have made only a few times. I don't post mediocre recipes. I don't post good recipes. I post GREAT recipes. I started “In the Kitchen with Polly” on January 1, 2010, a joint venture between myself and my non-cooking but most excellent webmaster, proofreader, technical goddess and all-around bestie, Ratty. (Not a joke. Ratty is her chosen name. Her Mama didn’t do that to her, she did it to herself.) Last year we hit a snag. The website went up in flames. Monstrous flames. It took a long time to sort out what happened and even longer to recreate what was lost. Hundreds of pictures, gone, and every recipe we posted (300+) over the last 14 years had to be reformatted. It's done now though. I like this brighter version. Scroll through. Find something you like. There’s a search button and there are also tags to click on if you want to find a recipe for a specific food. If you need it, the print button is on the preview page and at the end of the recipe page. Enjoy! Let me know if you try something!

In the US, a “good” dinner is a main dish, maybe a veggie, a starch and a green salad.  In England, the norm for a “good” dinner is a main dish, mash and three veggies. I’m English. Three veggies, please! …

I love this recipe! The lemon peel and the panko are the magic ingredients used to enhance that good quality halibut—often found at Costco. If I were collecting my favorite favorite recipes, this would definitely be one of my top…

Microwave Marmalade

You can make marmalade for breakfast! Honest, you can! It’s amazing! I have made orange, lemon and lime marmalade with this recipe—it’s so QUICK! I was very impressed 🙂 I have had better marmalades (hrmm, have I, really?), but they…

20-Minute Coconut-Lime Shrimp Bisque

PollyFebruary 24, 2010February 5, 2026

This soup is wonderful, one of my favorites. It can be on the table in less than 20 minutes, if you have all the ingredients, and it tastes d-i-v-i-n-e. My 15 month old grandson slurped up his bowl and then…

Orange Marmalade Cake

I looooooove marmalade! Though I hated it as a kid. Amazing what growing up can do, right? 🙂 My mom put a very expensive jar of marmalade in my stocking at Christmas one year—aren’t Moms great?—and I used some to make…

Lemon Cupcakes with Lemon Curd, Buttercream Frosting, and Toasted Coconut

PollyFebruary 22, 2010August 10, 2025

I should have toasted the coconut above, but if you are making all white cupcakes for a wedding or something, this works 🙂 Decorations were made by piping melted white chocolate onto parchment paper, letting them set to dry, then,…

Microwave Lemon Curd

PollyFebruary 21, 2010August 10, 2025

Lemon Curd [lemen kerd] n. 1 a wonderful treat cursed with an unfortunate name. 2 a custard made with lemon juice, butter, sugar, and eggs and used as a spread or filling. She spread the tasty lemon curd on her…

Lemon Bundt Cake

PollyFebruary 19, 2010July 18, 2025

It’s the start of citrus season here in sunny California—let’s all celebrate with a homey, yummy Lemon Bundt Cake! I picked three lemons off my neighbor’s tree—which I have spent 20 years training to grow over my fence—to make this…
